Assistant Script Supervisor

FT2 sound trainees on a sound assistant short course

Assistant Script Supervisors will assist the Script Supervisor in maintaining the continuity of the script and the continuity of action between takes. They work closely with the camera crew and Director and make full notes of everything that is filmed. These notes will include descriptions of the shot, what lens it was shot on, how long the shot was, whether there were any problems/mistakes etc., whether the dialogue differed from the script. They will mark up a script and provide full notes for the editor and keep the production office informed of progress. They may take polaroid shots of complicated set ups so that they can make sure everything matches when shooting wide shots and close up shots of the same action.

All production trainees must be able to touch-type and have qualifications for touch-typing at 40 wpm or more. When recruiting assistant script supervisors, FT2 looks for good proven secretarial skills and shorthand qualifications are desirable. To work in continuity a driving licence is essential.
