On Thursday, 10th August 2006, trainees and apprentices from three separate FT2 training schemes received certificates at an event in Southwark.
KATE DREWITT, ITV, Chair of FT2, who presented certificates to graduates of the New Entrant Technical Training Programme, the Set Craft Apprenticeship Scheme and the new pilot Grips Apprenticeship Scheme, says:
"FT2 continues to be one of the best and most widely recognised programmes for new entrants to the TV and Film industries. It takes a lot of commitment, but will put all this year’s graduates in a strong position when applying for their first and future jobs. We wish them all the very best in their careers"
Among those completing training this summer are:
SIMON ATKINSON, Set Carpenter, who says: "The Set Craft Apprenticeship Scheme is the only way of getting into the industry. I've worked on seven features and made loads of contacts."
SYNNOVE GODESETH, Assistant Location Manager, who says: "FT2 has been a great experience for me. I've worked with some truly fantastic people and gained invaluable skills on a variety of different productions. Although it is not the only route into the industry, there are still only limited opportunities to train as an Assistant Location Manager. I honestly believe that I would not be working on such great films today if I had not been selected for the New Entrants Scheme."
ALICE SYED, Assistant production Co-ordinator, who says: "I really enjoyed my experience on FT2. On the job training is invaluable, especially when it is continuous for two years, and you are learning from the most experienced co-ordinators. Without the experience and knowledge I gained whilst on FT2 I doubt I would be where I am now."
SIMON THORPE, Grip, who says: "The Grips Apprenticeship Scheme is a great opportunity to work with some of the best people in the British film industry".
DENNIS FRASER MBE, H/F BSC, Chairman of ASPEC, comments on the completion of the new pilot Grips Apprenticeship: "It has taken a long time to convince the film industry that we require Apprenticeships to ensure that anyone joining the industry obtains enough knowledge and acquires correct skills. I am very proud to be part of the first pilot scheme. The young grips had the opportunity to work and gain knowledge from a vast number of experienced technicians, and attained a firm understanding of health and safety within the industry. I am extremely pleased with all of the Apprentices and expect them to achieve good qualifications, which in turn will be an asset to the industry. A big thank you to SKILLSET, FT2 and all the member companies of ASPEC, ARRI MEDIA, PANAVISION, and JDC who participated. May it continue."
SHARON GOODE, Director of FT2, thanks all those in the industry who have supported these apprenticeship-style training models, "These are industry schemes and the training and experience provided could not happen without the knowledge, skills and financial contribution of production and facility companies and their crews."
These schemes all receive industry money through funds administered by Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the audio visual industries.
DINAH CAINE, Chief Executive of Skillset, says:
"Skillset is delighted to support all 3 of these schemes and invest in the future of the industry. The new entrants graduating today have had an amazing array of experiences learning the skills the industry needs them to have and giving them the best possible start to their careers. Congratulations to all the graduates. We look forward to seeing the positive contributions you will each individually make to the industry over the coming years."
