Tonight film industry producers and crew join young people at the start of their careers to celebrate the successful pilot scheme, the Skillset Film Trainee Network.
Producer STEVE CLARK-HALL, who will present certificates to 27 young people who have received introductory training and support for entry to the film industry, says:
"Getting started in the Film and TV business is really hard, and schemes that allow entrants to make contacts, understand the realities of life 'in production' and gain hands on experience working with established professionals are incredibly valuable. I have worked with a number of 'network' members and hope that they have benefited from being part of our team as much as we have from having them on board."
15 of these young people are on the Advanced strand at the start of freelance careers.
JAKE COOK – now employed on "Flight 93" says:
"I am permanently grateful for the advice, support and assistance given by the Production Guild on the Skillset Film Trainee Network. Even though I had a foot in the door of the film industry it was not until I had the support of the Network that I was actually able to move in the direction I wanted. In addition to financially securing the training I needed, they invested their time into finding the positions suitable for those on a steep learning curve; time and money were faculties I just did not have on my side. I have now achieved certified training in Avid and have built up many valuable contacts and experience on my placement on ‘Flight 93’. Being a member of the Skillset Film Trainee Network has enabled me to progress along my career path and I extend my warmest thanks to everyone at the Production Guild for contributing so generously in an otherwise difficult business."
12 of these young people are Foundation Trainees who have been given the opportunity to explore career paths in the industry.
RESHEL SHAH says:
"The course made me learn so much more about the film industry, both theory and practical. I also got to meet high people in the industry who I am still in contact with. After I finished lectures with FT2 in the summer, I went to Bournemouth Arts Institute doing my degree in BA Film Production. I will still be doing work placements with other companies and be in contact with those I previously worked with. I also am working on many of my own short films which I am going to send to film festivals."
This pilot programme is jointly managed by the Production Guild and FT2 and is funded by the Skillset Film Skills Fund.
DINAH CAINE, Chief Executive, Skillset, says:
"Schemes like the Skillset Trainee Network help to create pathways into the industry for talented individuals with a lot to offer. By funding structured skills and work experience programmes Skillset is helping to develop the next generation of filmmakers and encourage and nurture a more diverse workforce. Congratulations to all of the Networks trainees."
