Chris completed FT2 in 1999 as a 3rd A.D.

He explains his experience prior to getting a place on FT2:

"I am a Bath lad who left school early. Worked in an office of an industrial door company unhappily for a couple of years. Aged 19 I went to stay in Spain for a year and whilst there worked for 3 days on a commercial filming on location in a picturesque mountain village. I was probably an Art Department Runner although I knew nothing of my job title, crew structure or production at that time. This experience led me to want to work in this field back in the UK. I worked as a chef whilst enrolled part-time on a Business Studies course in Bath to enable me to apply for a degree. After seeking careers advice in Bath I was told I should apply for a Media Degree. Six years later, I left Bournemouth with a degree in Media Production but no idea what to do with it. There was a recession on and the TV companies were cutting back on production. I applied for a job as Despatch Manager in a Post Production facility in London, got the job and moved to London. The post production facility was for sale, a very depressing place to be and all the staff were trying to jump ship. I left to join a college friend running a folk music distribution company. As the business grew so did his ego and our conflicting managment styles meant we had to part company, I left. Unemployed, I contacted everyone and anyone I knew to keep active. A friend was making a short film and asked if I would like to be a runner, I said yes. It consisted of 3 nights shooting in a 5-star hotel in Chelsea Wharf. I ended up holding the microphone (Boom Operating) for a Sound Recordist called Jim Greenhorn on the film. I saw a character doing a job and asked Jim what he was, the 1st Assistant Director. It was like seeing myself personified as a job. Jim told me about FT2. I had missed the application date by two weeks waited a year to re-apply. Meanwhile, I worked in the world of short films and no budget features, after almost one and a half years of this I knew FT2 was my only real chance. I was lucky enough to become an FT2 Trainee."

His advice for people considering applying to FT2:

"I think anyone considering applying should be absolutely sure of their grade of interest and determination before applying. Know what you want to do clearly.  FT2 offers those who aren't connected in the industry a fantastic opportunity for training and developing the contacts that are so important to freelance career."
